Chinese Medicine and Stress
Did you know that acupuncture and chinese medicine can help to manage stress?
Stress is complicated for us all! It is a necessary component to our biology- it can provide hormones quickly and save our lives. But, when it becomes constant, that is when it can become a problem.
I ask a lot of my patients- how do you know you are stressed? What does it feel like in your body?
Here are some of the common answers I get (and maybe they sound familiar to you):
I feel tense, it goes up to my shoulders and neck and jaw
I have headaches
I feel irritable
I feel scattered and not in my body
I keep forgetting things, dropping the ball, missing important information
I feel tired all the time
I want to stay up late
I feel overwhelmed and very weepy
Stress and chinese medicine are almost antithetical to each other. Chinese Medicine and acupuncture can put the person into a rest and digest state- maybe you have heard of those terms before. Stress is a more fight or flight state (sometimes fawn has been added to this rhetoric).
At Raku Acupuncture, getting you into the rest and digest state is essential for my practice. We intentionally breath together, inhaling and exhaling. Breathing and regulating our breath with time has been shown to also help us leave that fight or flight state and go into the rest and digest state more quickly!
