How acupuncture improves fertility

Did you know that 1 in 4 couples will seek out acupuncture to help them conceive? If you are having trouble conceiving, you are not alone.

Here are five ways that acupuncture can help to improve your natural fertility:

  1. Acupuncture can help to regulate hormones. With regulated hormones you would see more regular ovulation, menstrual cycles, better follicle development, and better uterine lining (which needs to be thick enough for the egg to implant)

  2. Better blood supply to the ovaries. With better blood supplies comes more oxygen, hormones, and nutrients. I like to think of this like taking a multivitamin for your ovaries! With better flow to the ovaries, egg quality has also been shown to increase. Remember, achieving pregnancy it is not just about ovulating, but also that the egg that you are ovulating is high quality and well nourished! High egg quality can increase the likelihood of becoming pregnant.

  3. Acupuncture improves sperm quality and quantity. The sperm and the egg are the two basic facets of achieving pregnancy. We want to improve both facets of the sperm to be as healthy as can be!

  4. Acupuncture can help with embryo implantation- it can help support the travel down the fallopian tube and implantation into the uterine lining.

  5. Acupuncture can help to reduce stress and anxiety, which can both negatively impact our ability to become pregnant. This is protective, biological mechanism- if we are stressed or in a dangerous place, our bodies will not feel that it is appropriate to become pregnant.

    • Small disclaimer here: While often times stress gets the biggest focus in infertility journeys (everyone hears that age old saying, just relax and it will happen) it is not the ONLY focus. Stress can contribute, but there are so many
