Crying and the Liver
Has anyone ever made you feel guilty for crying? Raise your hand if you have!
In chinese medicine, it can be so so good to cry. It moves something called Liver Qi. Liver Qi is responsible for the smooth flow of qi in the body. It can get stuck or stagnated from injuries, lack of movement, and (you guessed it) stuck emotions.
As humans, this whole range of emotion is available to us. There is nothing wrong with crying! It is cathartic, moving, and supportive. It moves the Liver Qi so that we can move through life supported and free flowing, with ease.
You may find your Liver Qi is stuck if you feel tight in the neck and jaw or shoulders, have trouble falling asleep, feel irritable, overwhelmed or very tense. You may need a good cry. Or to move your body. Or try berathwork. There are so many ways to process emotions, but my personal favorite is a good cry. Now who is with me!
I have seen and held space for those crying on my acupuncture table. Want space to cry and be held? Make an appointment by clicking here.
