One Simple thing to optimize fertility

Here is one of the simplest quick tips I can offer if you are trying to conceive!

DRINK ENOUGH WATER!

Hear me out. I KNOW we have heard this in so many contexts and you wonder, why is this constantly given as advice? I drink enough fluids, I have my coffee, my tea, and some water. I don't ever feel thirsty anyway, what does it even matter?

Here is why:

So much of fertility is about excellent blood flow to the uterus and to the ovaries. Blood flow brings the hormone messengers, it brings oxygen, all of which are essential parts that allows these organs to function properly. And we want them functioning as optimally as possible, even when you are not trying to conceive!

Another reason is that more cervical mucus could be present when you are well hydrated. Cervical mucus is what ferries sperm to the egg and, get this, it is mostly water!

And, the same goes for male partners! Sperm should be encased in about 1.5-4.5 mL of semen- which is also made mostly of WATER!

I like to encourage my patients to be well hydrated. I advise people to aim to drink about half of their weight in water. So if you weigh 150 pounds, aim to drink 75 ounces a day of water.

Optimizing our fertility is in the small and simple choices that we make every day. Small things add up into real change, especially when it comes to our bodies.
